10 Must-See Movies this Summer

07 June 2019

Summer is made for hanging out in the garden, going to the beach and spending as much time outside as possible. But we live in a country that is well known for its unpredictable weather. So how do you entertain yourself and the kids when it’s overcast and pouring down? To the movies, of course! We have a list of the top blockbuster movies this Summer that you will not want to miss!

1. Aladdin

We are hoping that the live action re-make of Disney’s Aladdin will be just as big of a hit as the animated version that was released in 1992 – 27 years ago! With Will Smith stepping into the role of Genie, taking over his predecessor Robin Williams, it’s anticipated to be one of the biggest must-see movies of the summer.

2. Godzilla: King of Monsters

The mythical Japanese monster is back, five years later following the global success of the first film. The new story follows a battle for supremacy between ancient super-species – leaving humanity hanging in the balance. If you’re looking action and jaw dropping visuals, then this is pretty perfect.

3. The Secret Life of Pets 2

The Secret Life of Pets will follow summer 2016’s blockbuster about the lives of our pets lead after we leave them for work or school each day. The sequel will delve deeper into what they are doing while we’re away and stacked with a cast of comedians, it promises entertainment for all ages.

4. Dark Phoenix

It will be the first official X-men film to be premiered under the Marvel and Disney umbrella after being acquisitioned from Fox. The movie will focus on the rise of Jean Grey, a telepathic mutant struggling with the power of her alter ego, Phoenix. The character will be portrayed by Sophie Turner, who you might know better as Sansa Stark from Game of Thrones.

5. Men in Black: International

They’re back! Unfortunately, Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith are sitting this one out, but we have Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson taking over and they’ve gone International – to London! The MIB will be tackling their biggest, most global treat to date: a mole in the organisation.

6. Toy Story 4

Our favourite gang are back, and they meet a new friend in the newest instalment of the Toy Story franchise. The toys will be road tripping it but Tim Allen, who plays Buzz Lightyear says it’s going to be emotional – we will have the tissues at the ready!

7. Spider man: Far from Home

Tom Holland is reprising his role as Peter Parker for the second time in Far from Home. This time Parker will be setting off on a European vacation – surely, he deserves a break? It doesn’t seem likely as Nick Fury recruits him in a fight against Mysterio.

8. The Lion King

The last of Disney’s 2019 remakes ends with The Lion King. With an incredible voice cast including Beyoncé as Nala and the original 1994 voice of Mufasa will remain as James Earl Jones who will reprise his role. We’re highly anticipating this to be a tear-jerker!

9. Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw

Eight films and 5 billion dollars later, the Fast and Furious franchise just keeps going with its new spinoff featuring Dwayne Johnston and Jason Statham. What to expect? Fast cars, flying fists, hair-raising explosions and a menacing, cyber-genetically enhanced Idris Elba.

10. Dora and The Lost City of Gold

Dora has been beloved by kids all over the world and I’m sure they’ll be excited about the live-action Dora the Explorer movie! The storyline follows Dora as she tries to navigate her way through high school before she heads back to the jungle to try to save her lost parents.
