Shop Local this Weekend

20 June 2019

There is no denying the internet has made it far easier for us to do our shopping, from comparing price deals to getting gifts and groceries delivered right to our door. But have you thought of the benefits of buying from our local shops on the high street? Here’s 6 reasons to keep it local:

Character and Customer Service

We all know that it can be hard to beat that personal touch and local shops are run by people, not by boards or algorithms. Local business owners tend to have a more hands on approach, adding a touch of warmth and personality to your shopping experience. Plus they can often offer better information about products as they’ll have direct contact with supplier and manufacturers.

Better produce

It is a widely held belief that produce from local farm shops and markets have more nutritious and wholesome foods as it us usually grown in prime conditions and is a lot fresher because it reaches you sooner.

Face to Face

If something goes wrong with a product, most people prefer to deal with customer service face to face. Larger companies will often provide you with a phone number and make you wait for what feels like an eternity! With local businesses, it can be quicker, less painless and they often find out exactly how they can fix the problem in a matter of minutes.

It boosts the local economy

Businesses are the backbone of our local economy and to ensure a strong and sustainable community, people need to buy locally. This is because the more you spend nearby in shops, the shop owners will then put that money back into the community by respending it in the local pubs, markets and restaurants, thereby circulating the money and allowing towns to grow and prosper.

It creates local jobs

Helping to grow the number of jobs in your area makes for a better place to live and work which creates a healthy economy. Small, local businesses are surprisingly the largest employer of jobs nationally and provide the most local jobs to communities.

Online isn’t always best

For many of us, we believe online shopping can provide us with the best deals however you might be surprised to see just how competitive the prices can be in local shops and business. On top of this, online shopping can be a real nightmare sometimes especially if you need to make a return or it doesn’t come on time – I’m sure we’ve all been a victim of online shopping gone wrong?
